Yes, we do EPIC cakes, But, we also do many affordable wedding cakes if you are on a slightly tighter budget. Or, if the cake just isn’t something you want to break the bank on. We understand (well, kind of!).

Here are some ideas for affordable wedding cakes that will give you the centrepiece and perhaps the height, but not break the wedding budget.

1. Firstly.. Fresh flowers. Fresh flowers look absolutely beautiful on a wedding cake and they are a fraction of the cost of sugar flowers. Sugar flowers are made by us, using icing, petal by petal. The time is colossal and essentially, it is our time that you are paying for you. Of course, fresh flowers will still come at a cost from your florist, but nowhere near the cost of us making them by hand.
2. Dummy or fake tiers. Now, dummy tiers can only be considered as an affordable wedding cake idea if they are plain. If the design of the cake also includes lots and lots of piping and detail and lots of sugar flowers, adding a dummy tier or tier will not reduce the cost. It will increase it. However, if you opt for a design similar to that in our featured image here then you could use an extra dummy tier or two to increase the height of your cake. This combined with using fresh flowers, can make a very dramatic effect.
3. Think about your venue and where your plan to situate your wedding cake. If you venue has high ceilings then we would always recommend going for heigh over detail.
4. Use a pedestal cake stand. We have some gorgeous cake stands and a pedestal will elevate your wedding cake. So rather than a 5 tier cake placed on the table, use a pedestal to achieve the same height with a three tier cake design.
