If you've landed here then you are possibly looking for a simple but beautiful, budget conscious wedding cake? For approximately 50 guests?
Here are our top tips to get an absolute stunner of a cake but not break the budget!
- Avoid too much detail This is what costs. Essentially you are paying for our time and the devil is in the detail when it comes to cost. A cake that is covered in intricate detail adds on hours and hours of time for the cake maker and this will up the price substantially.
- Avoid Sugar Flowers - again, the devil in terms of adding cost. Yes they look stunning but if you want flowers on your cake and your a leaning into a more budget friendly wedding then sugar flowers are a big NO!
- Don’t make the cake bigger than the wedding. If you have around 50 guests then you don’t want to cake to be bigger than the wedding. Does that make sense? If you’ve already had a nose around our website (or already know of us) then you’ll see that we've done some pretty enormous cakes in the past. These big grand cakes have been for big weddings. If we delivered a 8 tier whopper to a chic intimate wedding for 40 to 50 people it would look ridiculous - and everyone would know it was mainly fake! So I would suggest a two or three tier cake is perfectly enough. Visually and in terms of portions.
- Rustic or sculptural wedding cake. Go for a design rustic or sculptural. Bang on trend especially sculptural (INCLUDE LINKS), minimal on detail and thus you are not paying the cake maker for extra hours of work
- Naked or Semi Naked. Please no. So last year and pretty unhygienic. Think of sandwiches that are left out all day and start curling up and drying out. Yes, exactly.
- Maximise on Cake portions. you’ll be surprised at how many portions you can get from a deep single tier 7 inch cake. Our single tier Wedding Cakes - The Bow for example, you will get 40 portions just from this one tier. I know it doesn’t look like it but honestly, you will. Your caterers will cut horizontally first (so, essentially getting two cakes and then, each of these cakes will but cut - in a grid - NOT A PIZZA!
- Add a ‘faux’ tier or two. Have a look at our Wedding Cakes that you can order direct online. By adding a faux tier you can elevate your cake without adding to the portions. Genius. Just choose single tier plus faux tier, or double tier plus faux tier!
We deliver all over the South East and Central London. We do NOT use couriers. All of our cakes are delivered by US by hand. Or, collection from Bexley DA5.
