What are ‘kitsch style cakes?’
Kitsch style cakes could be described as completely over the top! A bit garish maybe? Slightly vulgar?
We’ll take ‘over the top’! Pretty much everything we do is over the top is one way or another so this latest cake trend suits us fine!
Kitsch style cakes have tons of piping. Tons of it! The piping be all one colour or the can be a mix of colours.
We don’t offer buttercream finished cakes we only create sugar crafted cakes so our piping will always be with Royal icing and not buttercream. Plus, I did actually have a slice of a buttercream one at my friends’ daughter’s party a couple of weeks ago and whilst it look lovely (bright pink heart with various other shades of pink for the piping) it was SO sickly. Not for us..
So, its Royal icing for us and we absolutely love experimenting with different tubes and patterns to get the desired effect that we want. To be honest though, with kitsch style cakes its hard to go wrong or add to much detail. You can just keep going and going!
This one here is one we created recently for a bridal shower in Essex. For one of my best friends actually. These are the type of kitsch style cakes we would love to do more of. Whilst still completely over the top and a little garish, it’s all white and perfect for a fun girlie celebration but the style could also be easily transported to a whopper of a wedding cake.
Actually.. we would LOVE to do an enormous Ktsch style wedding cake! Wow! Can you imagine 8 or 9 tiers of the most ridiculously piped cake you’ve ever seen?! Plus, we adore piping. Literally love love love it!
So if someone could please order the most ridiculous kitsch style wedding cake it would be much appreciated!
