I have to be honest.. when we were asked if we could do a War Hammer cake for Albert’s birthday my heart sank..  furthermore, if it hadn’t been that it was for a regular and long term client – and friend Amie Bone Flowers we probably would have turned it down!  But we didn’t.. and from the moment we agreed to do it, the stress was real!!!! From the drawers and scaling to the planning and to the creation itself.  But. the final result, was, if we say so ourselves.. very impressive.

3D cakes are a LOT of work.  The sizing has to be scaled, they have to be fully supported – and transportable let alone the baking and the detailing.  3D cakes that need to be stood up are the hardest, for obvious reasons.  When we are asked to do a Ferrari or similar, that is hard enough, but 3D cakes that are stood up are on another level.

For this one, firstly we needed to work out the exact scale from the image we had been given and then we needed to build a frame.

Then, we started to building the legs out, using chocolate ganache and Rick Krispie treats

Then, once the baking was done, we need to build the cake onto the frame

Then, over 2 days worth of work ganaching, icing and adding the most ridiculous amount of intricate detail.  It really was painstaking!  So many tiny little pieces to add to ensure that the cake was authentic.  As you will see, we didn’t include every single detail.. we would have been there for days! But, we included as much as was needed to make the cake look like the character it was intended.

Alberts reaction to the cake was absolutely priceless.  He was speechless!

So, if you are looking for a really special 3D cake, you know exactly where to come!
